These Life Lessons Turned Me into a Big Bluey Fan!

I have a confession to make: I may be more of a Bluey fan than my three-year old daughter is. We first got acquainted with Bluey when my husband sent me a list of appropriate sources of screen time for kids. I didn’t know what to expect upon watching the first beat of its very catchy opening music drop, but I was immediately hooked on the way it presented a modern family, even though it’s from the point of view of anthropomorphic Australian cattle dogs.

Although Bluey is clearly an animated show made for young kids (its candy-colored aesthetic is an immediate giveaway), the way it’s written reaches a wider, older audience. While most of the episodes show the playful escapades of siblings Bluey and Bingo and their parents, dad Bandit and mom Chilli, from the Heeler family, they have also managed to tug at my heartstrings multiple times. I would almost always feel myself on the verge of tears as a seven-minute episode comes to an end, right when it surfaces an underlying life lesson that’s meant more for the parents than the kids.

It’s amazing for an animated show to be a source of inspiration for parents — or dare I say, even for viewers without children, but these life lessons from a few episodes of Bluey can already make a huge impact on anybody. Be forewarned of spoilers, though!

Here’s the Routine that Gets our School-Aged Kid 10 Hours of Sleep

I’m a firm believer that the habits we form early stay with us.

Young kids thrive on routines and familiarity, which is why I am so thankful we developed good habits early on that continue to help my now 8-year-old balance wellness and school life. Ever since she was little, I have been pretty strict about sleep, and it has really paid off thanks to the routines we set.

Now that she’s in the third grade, the time she spends outside our home is longer and she’s left with just a few hours to recharge, relax, and do school stuff before it’s time for bed again. Here is the well-rounded after-school routine that enables our daughter to have 10 hours of sleep.

What Happens When Adults Misbehave?

The past week has been very eventful for the Philippines. The news stories about dismissed mayor Alice Guo’s fan-meet-like arrest, preacher and FBI-most-wanted Apollo Quiboloy’s surrender after months of being at large, and incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte’s evasion of senate probes and budget hearings have been consistently leaving a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth.

The truth is it’s not just us parents and guardians who are affected. While we indulge in airing our frustrations through comments or memes, our teenage kids who are starting to understand the world around them a little more, see prominent adults who are getting their way out of their misbehaviors in broad daylight.

Have we really thought about what happens to our kids when they see misbehaving adults?
